I had an interesting dream last night in which I was reading a friends chart and commented on the meaning behind her Mercury Moon Sun conjunction. I told her that “because these planets are so close to the Sun they cannot be seen- and that’s why you can’t see them”.
The dream was more of a personal message to her than anything else, but it got me thinking about anything that is conjunct the Sun. Unlike any other conjunction, this kind of conjunction is super unnoticeable. Even a planet that isn’t conjunct the Sun, but is still close, is engulfed in the “rays of the Sun”.
To me, this exemplifies the power of the Sun. It truly does not yield for any other planet. It’s master is the galactic center, to which it orbits. If you have a planet within the rays of the Sun, even if it isn’t conjunct- it’s function is yielded to a vast, all encompassing focus, greater purpose.
It’s uniqueness as an individual force is hidden as it gets lost in the brilliance of the light. This is likened unto jumping into the bon fire, yet remaining your unique essence while you become one with the creative majesty of the fire. Imagine Pluto jumping into the bon fire. Your desire is to OSMOS with that fire, to find the consuming light within you. Mars? You simply can’t stop the creative energy, your on fire, your on fire! Go with it, create, express, keep on going, discover your power!
The orbs of the Sun are sure unlike any other kind of Orb. Something to think about in your own chart for sure. Also, many folks have Mercury or Venus in the rays of the Sun, as these planets, from a geocentric point of view, never move to far away from the Sun for too long.
Ari

hey ari,
very illuminating post (pun intended) there actually was a post of this on M’s forum, …i actually think i started it, about my Venus, which is in the 6th conjunct Desc, Mars and Sun in the 7th. .was a while ago, and a gentlemen did respond with that theory, that a planet close to the sun is unseen or blinded. i was not so happy about that, as i have Venus, Mars ,Mercury and Sun in a stellium, in that order….it seemed a one -sided interpretation, And i believe all aspects have multiple diimensions.. a positiive and negative application…but i could feel truth to it.. what i love about this post, and your insights, is that you birng something deeper…it validates my intuition that those planets close to the sun are part of our greater solar purpose.. this is an important articulation for me, because that’s how i feel and have been adjusting. (but that’s mostly with my Venus, cause she is in the 6th house, the rest are in the 7th.. ) So now i can integrate, which i think i have been doing, but not seeing that in a concsious state. also i think what you say is more conscious as you spiritually mature…you start naturally intergrating these planets with majesty.
Sigh.. i truly cant wait for mercury to station direct.. sent my reply without me touching anything…
my mars, i have never had any trouble with the creativity, and its madness now with mars transiting my North Node in Leo, ruler of my Sun conjunct mars!
My mercury has deepened.. being a messenger of Allah, bringing in a new language of love…(and ,repeating theme, my North Node in Leo is in the third house!
Venus, ah, she’;s the most challenging…yet she is my saving grace, she is conjunct mars, i’m accessing a new level of purity in my soul (positive 6th house application) god’s work as vocation, and my longing/merging with inner divinity helps me receive love into my life(Mars/Venus balsamic)
i’m most drawn to relationships with someone who is also dedicated to actualizing the creative spirit, and loves God more than anything ( Venus polarity point in the twelfth)
thgank you much for this post
You never used the term “combust” in your article Ari; Intentional, or or unknowing? The term “combustion” is when a planet is conjunct the Sun–and I would say within 2-3 degrees. Your dream and your intuition lines up perfectly with how I have always related to such aspects. I personally have Mars combust the Sun on the MC (Gemini), and like you said, its booming with creative potential, but it is also making many mistakes, and is involved in too many accidents. Another thing I would like to add, is that a combust planet seems to be strengthened “internally” but weakened “externally.” For example, if Venus is combust the Sun, and its a Male, you will not take him for a sensitive “venusian” type (especially if Mars is prominent in the chart), but on an internal level, they will be incredibly sensitive, artistic, and romantic. Yes, the Sun’s rays engulf the other planet involved, but it becomes a part of the Sun. It just harder for the observer to recognize. They must dive deep.
love.

What do you think about Planets in the “heart of the Sun” (cazimi – conjunct within 17 minutes)?
For instance, my daughter has 5th house Sun, Mercury, and Pluto all at 0 degrees of Sag. conjunct by just a few minutes.
Oooh 17 minutes! it’s really about understanding the sun for what it is. It signifies the integrative force through which a soul’s entire evolutionary purpose will find expression. Obviously in this case it implies an immense degree of creative energy. And that they way in which your son’s evolution will be integrated will occur through becoming centered in his own truth- and sharing that in some way, maybe teaching that. However who knows what that will look like- the entire chart needs to be understood in total context b4 any isolated section can be interpreted.
Ultimately we can uncover WHY the soul has chosen that particular signature. We can ask the question “why?” becuase life is about evolution- and thus there is a reason, a deep soul level intention permeating our very existance, and through astrology we can uncover that reason to a great degree.
This child also has a total of 7 planets in Sag! She’s got the most focused chart I have seen.
What’s so ironic is I also have Mercury in the heart of the Sun…late degree Pisces Sun follows Pisces Mercury by 7 minutes in the 3rd house, with 9th Libra Pluto & NN but neither aspect Sun/Mercury. The only major aspects to the Sun/Mercury are sextile 5th Jupiter and loose separating square to Neptune in Sag. 12th house.
One thing my daughter and I had in common is we were both basically mute for the first decade of out lives. I rarely spoke as a child, I would just absorb everything, and it is still a struggle to even find words to express all that is inside. Everything is so connected in my mind, yet so separated outside of it. I’ve struggled dearly with communication, and finding a way to say what I need to say, or what I feel. This is not the “lucky” aspect some have referred it to be, especially when you have Leo Saturn ruling your Asc. My Daughter has Cancer rising and her 5th house Sag. Moon is also conjunct her Sun, Mercury, Pluto, just by a separating 4 degree orb…and her Dsc = my rising. We’ve both got Pluto/Saturn heading to our Asc/Dsc. This is good though
